Site Downtime, September 2009

Yay, the site's back after about a day of downtime (right after covering MCF2009 as well!) and it had nothing to do with sharing large files from my hosting space this time. Instead, it looks like the recent boost in traffic had so many people viewing the site this month, the quota got used up faster than expected. Might be time to find some...

Mirror's Edge PC Version Revisited

Picked up the PC version of Mirror's Edge again because I felt like playing it. Maybe because it's something new instead of all the usual shoot-em-ups and RTS games on the PC. I was surprised to find it came with a music CD that contains the theme song "Still Alive" by Lisa Miskovsky because the sites never mentioned anything about it....

Two New Beast Player Erin Novels Published

I bought the original two volumes of the Beast Player Erin novels thinking that was it finished but, looks like the author released another two just last month to round off the story - The Quest Arc and The Final Arc. This suggests we could see a season two of the show since the current 50 episode series is only looking to encompass the first...

Digital Photo Printout Kiosks

Does anyone still prefer hard copies of their photos any more now that everyone's using digital cameras? All of mine are stored on an external hard drive only. Anyway, printed off a number of photos I took with the Canon SX200 to join the Jessops Summer Photography Competition just for fun. It was the first time printing digital photos...

5 Centimeters per Second Gets A Reference in TVB's Sakura Memories

I was just watching the Chinese Channel this evening when episode one of a holiday programme about Japan named 樱红醉了 came on. I think the Chinese name "ying hung zeoi liu" is a pun for "The Drunken Hero" but the English name is "Sakura Memories". Anyway, the narrator and actress Niki Chow was suddenly talking about how cherry blossoms...

Perseids Meteor Shower 2009

My patience paid off this time round. Last time I tried watching out for the annual Perseids meteor shower it was cloudy and I didn't see a thing but this time, the sky started off clear when I began watching the skies after midnight. At around 3am I saw a very long streak of light across the sky as if it was being slit open with bright light...

Noriko Sakai Arrested in Suspicion of Drugs

Was browsing about the BBC News site randomly to see if I could find anything about the earthquake that Danny Choo posted about because my penpals live there. Then I came across this... Noriko Sakai being arrested for drugs. Pretty surprising when I realised she was the actress from one of my favourite dramas, Hitotsu Yane no Shita...

Nintendo Wii Hardware and Software Mods, Going Region Free

Decided to take the plunge and add a chip to my Wii because there was a number of Japanese only games I wanted to play or just games I wanted to play in their original Kanji context such as Muramasa The Demon Blade. It was also partly because the recent DriveKey chip doesn't require any soldering. Despite saying that however, it's not easy...

Evangelion Rebuild 2.0 Sneaky Cam Edition

Well, this didn't take as long as the last movie to get camcorded... Kind of tempted to watch the whole thing since the DVD release probably won't be available until next year if the first movie is any indication but, that would just lower my anticipation of getting my hands on the actual package so I will refrain ^^; I did have a skim...

Hong Kong TVB Channel Gets a Reference in Canaan

Haven't really been watching or playing much lately but, decided to give "Canaan" a try because of all the good things I've heard about it. Then I spotted the TVB logo on the Air Caina TV in episode one... The scrolling Chinese headline barely made sense to me. If "Engrish" is a term for bad English then what's a term for bad Chinese I...
