Will the Nintendo DSi Support Backups without Flash Carts?

Just a thought… It’s already been pointed out that the new Nintendo DSi could be paving the path for piracy with its built-in support for SD cards but, what about the internal memory itself?

The DSi has lots more memory to help speed up the DS version of the Opera browser and enough room for up to forty different DS Ware titles so, perhaps hackers will end up making use of that for storing ROMs too, not just the currently available flash carts such as the M3 Real.

I don’t know what the actual technical specs are but, I can imagine someone writing a homebrew program that fits into one of these free slots then, allow users to send ROMs to the console wirelessly…

Rumours Proved True, Here Comes The Nintendo DSi

That article in the Nikkei newspaper wasn’t just rumours after all. At their autumn conference today, Nintendo has revealed the third revision of the DS, the “Nintendo DSi” which will be available in Japan next month, November 1st at 18.900 yen (US$180). An additional cost of 2100 yen (US$20) for all the new features listed below.

Famitsu has put together a nice comparison. First you’ll notice the screens are slightly bigger at 3.25 inch instead of 3.00.

Studio Ghibli and Level 5 Team Up for 10th Anniversary

To commemorate their 10th anniversary Level 5, the company behind the riddle solving Professor Layton series, is teaming up with Studio Ghibli to create their next game for the DS, Ni no Kuni otherwise known as “The Another World“. Level 5 will be responsible for the game itself while Ghibli will be responsible for the animation and Joe Hisaishi (who composed for “Laputa Castle in the Sky”) for the music.

Due sometime in 2009 next year, TAW tells of a thirteen year old boy who travels to Ni no Kuni, another world different to his own where he tries to find a way to save his mother from her death. This RPG will come with an actual handbook known as the “Magic Master”, a replica of the very same book that the protagonist carries with him during his travels, filled with information and magical crests that the player will be able to draw on the DS to actually use and solve mysteries.

Check out Game Watch for a bundle of screenshots and photos. Going to be interesting to see how this title turns out. Still to watch Ghibli’s “Ponyo”!

Chrono Trigger DS, The New Material Includes Pokemon?

The new content for the Chrono Trigger DS remake is slowly being revealed, three of them being in the latest issue of Shonen Jump magazine.

First, there’s good news for players who have played the classic SNES RPG before. There will be a new original dungeon, “Distortional Dimension” that changes every time you go in to explore and if you don’t manage to reach a the appointed place of the dungeon, you won’t be able to get out. If you manage to clear all three of these dungeons that appear, you’ll end up changing End of Time.
