Both the DVD and Blu-ray release of Evangelion 2.22 is finally out and since both copies come with the collector’s film strip this time, I decided to go for the higher quality Blu-ray version.
The packaging is fairly much the same as the 1.01 limited edition – A sturdy cardboard box except I think it’s orange for the Blu-ray versions.
Some movie spoilers ahead.
Gainax is due to release two A4 sized books containing a total of 650 pages this summer entitled, “Evangelion You Can (Not) Advance Complete Records Collection” which will feature the following…
- Full “film story” script and scenes to the third movie “Evangelion: Q” trailer.
- Music cue sheets.
- Narration scripts.
- Design works from the production studio.
- Artworks board.
- Interviews with 14 of the production staff including Anno Hideaki.
- Posters, leaflets and all other materials used for marketing during its screening.
- A commented, outlined edited version of the movie’s script.
There will be a case for the two books. First press copies will get two additional art board booklets, a film strip and early pre-orders will also get a bonus Tote bag. All for 12,600 Yen (US$138) and pre-orders are available on HMV Japan.
This must be the “cheapest” collection of movie guide books ever. So they haven’t cut up the entire movie reel for their DVD/Blu-ray releases yet then. Maybe worth it if you’re a hardcore Eva fan or try your luck at getting a film strip worth close to US$1000?
Since I couldn’t check online to see how many of the 394 seats at the Glasgow Film Theatre were reserved, I thought I’d try to find out while I was there to pick up my tickets for the Evangelion 2.0 UK Premiere. Apparently over 200 seats were reserved by Friday so I guess all those people that posted on the forums about how they were going to fly up from England to see it maybe true. It was a full seating from what I could gather.
Never actually been in this theatre before although I have often passed by the place wondering what was there. Unlike the newer Cineworld, it’s a very small building with a small entrance but once you’re inside you’ll find a warmly lit hallway with some very stylish, traditional art deco interior designs.
Had initially thought about seeing both 1.0 and 2.0 back-to-back since they were doing a deal of £10 for both movies instead of £14 but sitting in the theatre for 4 hours didn’t sound very comfortable. That and I had already re-watched the Blu-ray release 1.11 again which has a “massive” 3 extra minutes to the first movie.
Anyway, there was a brief introduction for the movie by Jonathan Clements from “Schoolgirl Milky Crisis“ which ended with a reminder that there was going to be a short trailer for Evangelion 3.0 after the ending credits.
I think the direction quality has fallen off a tangent for the worst.
Amazon JP has listed the Japanese releases of both the DVD and Blu-ray versions of Evangelion 2.0 for May 26th. The good news is, both will have first press editions available this time apparently so that anyone who prefer the High Definition copy of the movie won’t miss out on the collector’s items like the last time with the first movie!
As revealed in an interview before, the increase in version number means there will be several “re-adjustments” made to the movie. But considering how 1.11 only had an extra 3 minutes more than 1.01, I wouldn’t hold my breathe.
The collector’s item that comes with the First Press edition will once again be a film strip with a random scene from the movie too. Both versions of the movie are available for pre-order on Play-Asia if you want to avoid Amazon JP’s expensive handling and delivery charges but note there are no English subtitles!
So are there going to be crazy bids for film strips again like the US$2500 paid for a scene of Rei smiling towards the end of Eva 1.0?
Film Cut.
It appears the second remake movie Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance will be on show next week in the UK on Monday 15th during the Glasgow Film Festival with subtitles. Since the Japanese DVD release won’t be out until May 26th apparently, I think I will go see it on the big screen and see how many people here turn up for the evening!
Will be interesting to see how big the Anime community is or how many Eva fans there are here. Never went to the cinema here to watch Anime before… ^^;
それに、グラスゴーにどれだけのアニメファンかエヴァファンがいるかちょっと気になるな（笑） 映画館でアニメ見るなんて今まで一度もなかった… ＾＾；
