The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim (2024, Sola Entertainment)
ロード・オブ・ザ・リング/ローハンの戦い
Lord of The Rings Roham no Tatakai
Hera is a descendant of the Shield Maidens and is all that remains of the brave warriors that fended Rohan when all the soldiers fighting were wiped out. One day, the Lord of West March, Freca decides to demand Hera's marriage for his son instead of betrothing her to the enemy. When King Helm disagrees, a duel occurs and the King of Gondor is killed, his son Wulf is banished.
Some time later, a strange sounds have been heard from the distant borders of Rohan. Hera discovers Wulf has gathered an army ready to conquer and get revenge. As the people of Rohirrim are pushed back, it's left to Hera to lead and protect her people.
A spin-off Lord of the Rings movie set 200 years before the rings. Fairly Anime kind of direction and animation's pretty rough but the fantasy backgrounds are really beautifully detailed, looking fairly much like the live-action. Bit of Princess Mononoke vibes with the monster designs.
It's fairly much your fantasy warfare movie full of vengeance and conquering. Only the aesthetics and locations have any resemblance to the franchise. Second half is a bit of Anime trope transformed super powers but it's not Hera whose given enough of a role to feel how hard she's fighting despite not being the best or have super human skills like a lot of Anime protagonists. There's your familiar super human powers and child hood sweetheart tropes but overall direction is pretty good. Decent watch.
