Worth A Watch

Metallic Rouge

Humans have colonised Mars and once created humanoid "Neans" to fight against "Usurpers" aliens known as Junoids during the great war. The Asimov code ensures they will always obey and never kill a human but a murder has already taken place on Earth. Rumour has it they are actually spies for an alien race. Now the Neans continue to serve humans but discrimination has been ongoing between them and the humans. The frequent doses of Nectar they require to continue functioning is often sought by humans which could be abused as a recreational drug.

While there are Neans that seek freedom through peaceful means, another known as "Alters" choose to resort to force. Chocolate loving Rouge Redstar is one such spy of the Alethia, an organisation that oversees the Neans. Supported by Naomi Orthmann they work together to avenge the creator of Neans her Father, hunting down the Immortal Nine the master models of the Neans "Proto-Neans" who possess special abilities now conceal themselves amongst the humans.

Not a great first episode. Action scene, mecha designs also weren't that exciting. There's a fair amount of jargon to get your head around before you figure out the plot. It's kind of an AI versus humans show but on a smaller scale, not all out war.

The show feels kind of rushed trying to build up the world setting quickly. And before that's even established they're already trying one of those psych mind attack scenes which makes it even more confusing. However, the pacing does get better in the second half of the show as they start to wrap things up.

There's some nice lines but the direction's kind of dull when obvious incidents occur but the characters are fun to watch. Naomi's the brains always teasing the overly-honest goofy Rouge, OP action heroine.

Towa Tei did some nice backing tracks for Supercrooks and manages to do pretty much the same again here. Horrible battle theme song too. OP/ED's are pretty good, one of the rare ones that I enjoy watching multiple times instead of skipping. Unfortunately the full version of the songs aren't so great.

Not a bad watch overall. Only thing I found amusing was the characters and music really. Nothing else.
