Persona PSP Opening and Ending Lyrics

Still finishing the different branches in Persona PSP but I've already taken a liking to the music for some time.

Some notes Meguro made about these compositions is that he was aiming for the same pop style used in Persona 3/4 so that players who are playing this game because of those titles will feel more at home. He also wanted to experiment with the music to show how two-sided Persona is. For example, in the opening he starts off with some light pop before moving onto the intense beat of rock. Then there's also some switching between English and Japanese in the lyrics.

Some of those approaches aren't done for the first time to be honest. "Burn My Dread" mixed pop and rock together too.

On another note, it's interesting how the lyricist for these two main theme songs also wrote the lyrics for Persona Trinity Soul's first opening "Breakin' Through" although I personally didn't really like that song.

Well anyway, lets hope the European release of the game will get the free pre-order two disc soundtrack that America's going to get!

Persona OST

Dream of Butterfly

Lyrics: Masao Komori
Composition: Shoji Meguro
Vocals: Yumi Kawamura

Translation

Dream of a butterfly, or is life a dream?
Don't wanna wake up, coz I'm happier here

I was glad just to have you by my side
It was the only reality I needed

But it was all just a dream
Swaying and dissolving like bubbles in the dark ocean
When I woke up, no one was really there

There is nothing certain
Reaching for the shimmering shape in vain
That, I know is true in this place

What should I believe in to live on in this ever changing world?

I'm drowning (I can't believe in you)
in sadness (but I cannot forget you)
calling out as I saw you (I will dig up my faith)
that night (and march on)

I believed (I cannot see ahead)
that it's because (but I can't keep standing still)
you are by my side (So I will close my eyes)
that I could grow strong (and march on)

I was afraid (Can't lay the blame on you)
of sadness (but I cannot forgive you)
crying as I called out to you (So drenched up in rain)
that day (I'll march on)

I realised (I cannot face the sun)
my weaknesses (but I cannot dream at night)
are because of you (So under the moonlight)
They all are (I'll march on)

It sounds like someone's having nightmares because of a broken heart here. The song starts off with a very brief hint of happiness before it just spirals down into pain and in the end, there's desire for revenge. Suits the game's story nicely.

Voice

Lyrics: Masao Komori
Composition: Shoji Meguro
Vocals: Yumi Kawamura

Translation

I hear a voice that causes me to start walking
So that I can go on all sorts of paths

Everyone will surely find the dream that they had when they were young
We'll start walking our separate ways as we go in search of it

We're no longer children any more but, we'll never fully become adults
We can live on in that odd little transition

I hear a voice that causes me to not give up
And go on all sort of paths

You hear a voice that causes your heart to say stay by my side
So that we can catch hold of our dreams

We've never noticed it, our dreams are within our reality
When we finally did, we had already become adults

As we pursued our hopes and dreams, there were many sad moments
But we overcame it all and managed to smile

I pray like a sacred virgin
I wish like a white pilgrim
I look up like a noble knight
I sing like a beautiful poet

And taking your hand, we will walk on for eternity
Won't we?

I hear a voice that causes me to look up at the sky
Looking at each of our futures

You hear a voice that causes your heart to take a stand
So that you can catch a hold of your dreams

I hear a voice that causes me to look up at the sky
Looking at each of our futures

You hear a voice that causes your heart to take a stand
So that you can catch a hold of your dreams

A nicer song to end the game with and again, suits the scenario.

For the most part it looks like friends supporting each other and after going through a lot, it's time to go their separate ways. Then towards the end, the singer's found his/her other half.

I like the third verse of the song that says, "We're no longer children any more but, we'll never fully become adults. We can live on in that odd little transition" because it's true isn't it? Even adults can act like children when they're behaving with no regards for others or, are acting irrationally, driven only by their emotions.

In other words, we all get carried away sometimes but... Never mind that. Lets enjoy the music ^^;

Romaji

Japanese

I hear a voice to cause me 歩き出そう

I hear a voice to cause me 諦めずに

You hear a voice to cause your heart

I pray like a sacred virgin
I wish like a white pilgrim
I look up like a noble knight
I sing like a beautiful poet

And take your hand, we will walk eternally
Isn't it?

I hear a voice to cause me 空を見上げ

You hear a voice to cause your heart

I hear a voice to cause me 空を見上げ

You hear a voice to cause your heart

Import it! PSP games are-region free (which is nice, 'cause I do a lot of importing of Japanese games)

The 2-disc soundtrack released with the North American version isn't a pre-order gift, it comes with every single copy of the game over here.

I wouldn't have noticed either if I didn't happen to see that advertisement XD
And you're welcome, but it should be me thanking you anyway, because if I didn't read about it in your blog, I wouldn't even know that a Persona Music Live existed!

Wow, you're right! Odd it's still under the proposed projects section on Atlus' official merchandise site... I guess it's because Aniplex are the ones producing the DVD and not Atlus.

I'll have to make a post about this. Thanks for the heads up! It will be great watching this DVD with surround sound! Still wish I could attend in person, though.

It was actually confirmed just a short time ago, I think :D (or at least I noticed few days ago ^^; cause I saw an advertisement on Famitsu - site is http://www.aniplex.co.jp/persona-live/)
Most sites already have it up for preorder too, I'm thinking of getting it from Play-Asia since I was already going to order Tales of Vesperia PS3, which is out the day after.
