First thing’s first. People seem to have confused Ys The Oath in Felghana being Ys7 so I’d just like to make it clear Felghana was really more of a side story like Ys Origin. I guess that’s why Falcom decided to write the English word “Seven” instead of using the Roman numeral.
So the Ys ARPG series has reached its seventh title, “Ys Seven” and rather than releasing on the PC as Falcom’s tradition goes, we have it on the PSP this time. Not only that, you even have two AI party members to accompany our you. But does it work when the action has always been so fast paced?
As far as the storyline goes, it’s the typical good versus an ancient evil set in a fantasy world.
Dogi and Adol reach the Capital of Altago in an attempt to find more adventure. While exploring the town, they get into trouble trying to save two sisters who were being harassed by the local Dragoons. They are thrown into the cells but thanks to their reputation as adventurers, they get a request from the king to help him investigate some strange earthquakes going on lately but his men hasn’t managed to find anything. On their way, they find out the Five Dragons are awakening once again to prevent a great evil, lending their power to Adol to help stop it.
Falcom has released a trailer for their latest title in the Ys series and also announced a limited edition. The price of the limited edition will include a drama CD which has a story taking place between Ys VI and Ys VII.
Also, don’t forget the pre-order goodies that includes a teaser booklet about Legend of Heroes VII!
The official site for Falcom’s next Ys title is up and reveals that the ARPG will be available from Japan on September 17th. Besides that, the game will also come with a slightly different set of bonus goods than their usual packaging. This time it will include an “Ys History Soundtrack” covering a selection of tracks from the entire Ys series from one to seven including Origin. There will also be a 32 page “Legend of Heroes VII Classified Design Works” book which is currently under development.
Import stores don’t usually stock Falcom’s titles but if you’re really interested, you can order from them directly in English by email as long as you have a credit card. Note the EMS postage overseas is hefty, though.
Falcom has announced that the next title in their Ys series will not be developed for the PC but the PSP instead! Due sometime this September, Ys VII takes place in the Dukedom of Altago and will feature a new three member party battle system allowing you to select two other characters to support you.
I hope this doesn’t ruin the insanely fast paced boss fights but judging from what I can make out from the screenshots, it looks like you still fight solo as Adol only now you can use your party’s support skills too.
Falcom reveals the MMORPG that went live in Korea 2007, Ys Online – The Call of Solum will be hitting Japan sometime this Spring. There’s no definite time at the moment but a teaser site is up. Odd I can’t access the site. Maybe it’s Japanese IPs only?
Too bad I’m too late in getting one of the English version closed beta keys. I wonder if it sports the same furious, fast-paced battles the original Japanese titles have? Being an online game, I doubt they are.
