Devil Survivor fans will soon be able to buy themed black and white mugs from March onwards or go for a customisable glass tumbler in April. There’s nothing much to say about the mugs but, the glass holds 320ml of liquid and has a rubber bottom to prevent it from sliding off slippy surfaces. It can also handle temperatures between 90 ~ -30C but isn’t microwavable.
Have to get this glass. I’m sure the guys won’t mind me sitting with them with a big pink glass in the campus cafeteria…
Was dropping by Atlus Net to see if I could find some bits of new info about their games and came across this instead. The artist responsible for all the “Devil” designs in Atlus’ MegaTen and Persona series Kazuma Kaneko, writes in his company blog entry fourty-five about his view of the spiritual world (霊界) and how it’s like the internet…
Don’t read further than the translation if you don’t like spoilers, because it contains a few for Devil Survivor.
In my last entry, I talked about how we more or less won’t be able to meet someone else who thinks and acts like yourself as we go about our daily lives normally. That said, an actor was once talking about how in the “spiritual world”, like-minded people gather and live together so, even if we can’t meet someone like that in this world, we will be able to after we die… So why did this actor [who appeared in one of the 007 movies] interpreted the spiritual world in such a way?
With people having various personalities, we get all sorts of stimuli and I think that’s what makes this world interesting but on the other hand, there are situations when that stimuli becomes our stress. At the very least after we die, we don’t have that kind of stress and can live in paradise. Perhaps this is the way a lot of people think.
And here is the mysterious “MegaTen DS” game that Atlus had revealed as part of its DS line up four years ago, Devil Survivor. Another spin-off title from their MegaTen series but also unrelated to the Persona series.
It is the middle of the summer holidays in August. Your cousin Naoya has invited you and your friends Yuzu and Atsurou for a day out to Shibuya 901 to hang out. However upon arriving, you find out he can’t make it but has asked Yuzu to give out machines that resemble a Nintendo DS called a “Communication Player” or “Comp” for short. After hacking open the protection on it, they find themselves having the ability to see how long others have to live and receive strange emails foretelling future incidents that will happen in the city. Hours later, the city is quarantined. All communications and power are cut off and monsters are appearing everywhere. With your new power to summon “Devils”, you are determined to survive and change fate before the seven days are up.
Atlus’ Devil Survivor site is now officially open with a wallpaper and a video to watch. Unfortunately, it’s nothing exciting because there’s no gameplay footage, just a lot of narration. The music doesn’t sound too good either although it may grow on me once I get to play the game.
Game’s been given a B by CERO for player 12 years or older. Also came across two more bits of info about the staff…
Suzuhito Yasuda (Yozakura Quartet Manga and Kamisama Kazoku Illustrations)
Takami Asano (Godiego)
Maybe that explains why I don’t like the video’s music… Then again, I listened to Meguro’s Kuzunoha Raidou compositions and they remind me so much of P4’s music. I think he might need to work on varying his music a little more again.
Atlus has finally revealed the game they setup a teaser site for and it’s the “New MegaTen” game they had announced at the same time as the Nintendo DS four years ago. It’s not just a port either!
Note the title is “女神異聞録 Devil Survivor”, Megami Ibunroku to show that it’s a spin-off from the original MegaTen series which means, it uses a lighter set of impression making character but, the story remains dark – Just like the Persona series such as P3, P4 and PTS.
The story begins when three high school friends gather together at Shibuya 901 when they felt something was wrong. Suddenly Devils appear to attack them and they find the city has been quarantined. All forms of communications with the outside world have been cut off as the situation worsens and people are killed by the increasing number of Devils. There is only 7 days before Tokyo is destroyed and it’s up to you to survive and make the right decisions.
