Apocalypse Hotel (2025, CygamesPictures)

アポカリプスホテル

Miss

22nd century. A virus "Infoternum" has infected humans globally to the point where it has become uninhabitable even with hazard suits. A selection of humans have since been sent into space to take refuge in arks. Meanwhile, a group of robot staff lead by acting manager Yachiyo (also a robot) continues to keep Hotel Gingarou in Ginza running everyday, faithfully awaiting humans to return through the centuries. Unaware of humans' fate, they soon have some rare guests but they are all aliens.

Originally wasn't going to watch this because of the aesthetics but then someone mentioned it's kind of melodramatic like Girls Last Tour. Not quite so since there are lively fun robots and strange alien guests... until the brief scenes revealing what happened to humans anyway. It's not until towards the end of the show it starts to give off GLT vibes.

GLT was also more about a journey of discovery in a post apocalyptic world, finding joy in discovering new places. This show is mostly sarcasm and adapting to alien guests. Not really a fan of the humour like turning on the emergency alarm because of a missing shower hat or some form of dark comedy. The sarcasm feels very much like Cells at Work which I didn't enjoy too much either.

Main cast of characters and robots are fun though. Yachiyo reminds me of Mahoro from Mahoromatic. There are a couple of wholesome and bitter sweet moments with our dedicated hotel staff robot as they overcome challenges. Cute opening dance too. Post apocalyptic Tokyo looks good with a few spots that were also featured in Your Name.

At first glance, it may seem like a show for kids but it can get a bit suggestive too even without fan service. Even has its own take on "magical girl" tranformation.

Originally dropped after 3 episodes but then read it gets better by episode 6. So, I gave it some more time to develop but still not a fan of the sense of humour. By that point I had watched half the show so ended up finishing it anyway. Still a miss for me overall.

If you're after another Girls' Last Tour show, this isn't it.
