Tetris DS, Utada Hikaru 26 Wins, Nintendo Club 4 Wins

Today is the day that 30 lucky Nintendo Club members get to play against Hikaru Utada, the J-Pop star in a game of Tetris DS. Hikaru herself, who has been playing Tetris everyday since the age of 5, was very excited about the event as she didn't get many chances to play against other people.

Taking place in the Tokyo International Forum in Yuuraku, here are the results of the 30 different matches complete with little comments from Hikaru. The end score was 26 wins to Hikaru and 4 wins to the Nintendo Club members.

  1. Opponent, a lady.

Not used to not using her own DS, Hikaru made several mistakes one after the other. With blocks piling up quickly, she finally lost. "Oh no!! The buttons are too stiff! This can't happen! Oh no!!" cries out Hikaru.

  2. Opponent, a lady.

Again, Hikaru makes several mistakes because she's not using her own DS. That's 2 losses in a row... Hikaru cries out, "Hmm! Can I use my own DS?!" It seems she couldn't believe she's losing. Stamping her feet on the platform, she continues pressing the buttons as if she's trying to get used to them.

  3. Opponent, a primary school girl.

Hikaru starts to show her skills and beats her opponent easily giving her her first victory. "Alright, I won! I won, I won! (Turning to the girl) We'll play again next time!"

  8. Opponent, a man.

At first, Hikaru's opponent was winning due to her many mistakes but eventually, she manages to clear all the blocks hastily and turns the table round, winning the match.

  9. Opponent, a lady.

Even though she made mistakes again, she managed to recover with some good techniques, beating her opponent.

  10. Opponent, a man.

  14. Opponent, a lady.

Not affected by her loss, Hikaru wins the round. It was time for a break but sitting at the guest seat Hikaru was saying excitedly, "Awww, I don't need to rest. I can still play on (Laughs). I want to play with everyone all day long."

  27. Opponent, a man.

A 38 second win to Hikaru.

Now the 27 user matches were over with 24 wins to Hikaru and 3 wins to the players. Next up is the exhibition matches where Hikaru will play the next 2 matches with the developers of Tetris from Nintendo. Hikaru was really happy that she could have a strong opponent to play against saying, "It's such an honour to be able to play with them!"

For the first match, Hikaru suffered a defeat playing against the first Tetris developer. Undaunted however, Hikaru suggests, "Whoever wins 3 matches first is the winner!" With that rule in mind, they play on but the developer continues to hold his stance, beating Hikaru in another 2 matches one after the other. Even so, Hikaru seemed really happy, "Wow! This is so much fun!"

Playing against the second and last developer, Hikaru again lost the first match. But following the rule Hikaru proposed earlier, the rest of the matches were a mix of wins and losses to both players. Eventually, Hikaru pulled through and won. While in her triumphant pose, Hikaru shouts out, "I want to play again!"

Finally, to end the event, three of the top normal players who showed the most skill earlier gets to play against Hikaru again. Hikaru loses a match and wins the other two.

At the closing of the event, Hikaru announces, "I'm tired but it was really fun! It felt like I came here to play and not because I had to come here for all the adverisement or publicity I needed for a my job (Laughs). Thank you all for today!"
