Train to the End of the World (EMT Squared, 2024)
終末トレインどこへいく
Shūmatsu Torein Doko e Iku? [Where does the Doomsday Train Go?]
Yoka Nakatomi is welcomed to a 7G network opening ceremony. To everyone's dismay, activating the technology destroys the world. Now not only has the world's geography become distorted so that places are further apart, those from Agano who are older than the age of 21 (and 3 months) find themselves turned into animals with their intellect intact.
Meanwhile it's been 2 years since the 7G incident and Yoka is still missing. When her friend Shizuru discover the local train to Ikebukuro is still working and spot her in a recent newspaper, she and her classmates Akira, Reimi and Nadeko decide to go in search of her. Now they must make their way through 30 stops to reach Ikebukuro while being supported by Zenjiro, a local ex-train driver who can only revert to himself for 5 minutes a day.
I think this show is supposed to poke fun at the people that thought 5G was hazardous.
Was quite interested in this when I saw its announcement then there was a bit of hype when it screened. It's more one of those cute girls doing silly things comedy, not much of a post-apocalypse vibe.
It's good at creating the creepy vibes when it's not being silly but it's a comedy for the most part. Being a horror comedy, it features dark comedy of course; mostly to do with toilets and hygeine. It might not be Highschool of the Dead but there's a whole episode dedicated to dirty jokes.
Post apocalypse scenery looks interesting considering how it's all supposed to be mutated. The irregular colour palette similar to Zom 100 works I guess. Soundtrack is good.
Show started off fun as a bunch of silly girls going on an adventure of exploration but second half just feels too messy with a good vs evil finale thrown in to wrap it up.
I think I prefer Girls' Last Tour for its laid back post-apocalypse vibe. This was quite a mix.
