Japan Trip 2026, Move to Kyoto
無中文版
It was time to start the main tour of my trip.
Last time I explored Western Japan I had made base in Nagoya but this time, the two “top 3 scenic spots of Japan” had Kyoto in the centre so I decided to stay there this time.

I thought having a Green train pass would make life easier moving around with luggage but when I boarded a group of people were sitting on my seat. It was tough enough speaking to strangers with my social anxiety so I didn't want to confront them. The seat behind was empty so I decided to wait it out and let the conductor sort them out. However, nothing really happened because of a language barrier. The conductor had to go get backup.
Eventually as more people boarded, the group moved themselves fortunately... Natives complaining about tourists ruining the place because of the cheap exchange rate isn't completely unfounded.

Nevertheless I tried to be helpful and suggested if they have a pass, they can get a seat in the regular unreserved carriages to save themselves getting off the train and waiting for the next one.

Never watched KyoAni's Sound Euphonium but still popular enough to pop up here and there.

I tried the E-ON Food Hall near my hotel for food but there really wasn't much choice on the two floors.
The omrice I tried at Ikebukuro, Parco was really nice but it wasn’t an original so I decided to try it here. Despite being called a “food court” with a giant neon sign, there really wasn’t much choice on the two floors. Mostly “Wagyu” which I don’t care much for.
Omelette turned out pretty bland and I don’t know if it was made by an average chef. There was none of the butter taste in the rice that was added.

Never had an issue paying by Suica IC card when I stayed in Nagoya but not quite the same in Kyoto… I was asked cash only so many times I ended up getting a cheap coin holder to organise my coins. Only the chain stores like conbinis and restaurants that are also present all over Japan still accept Suica.

I forgot I wasn’t in Akiba and stores closed at 8 instead of 10 so just a little night walk it was.
Gachapon and arcade places always open late though.
