The rental DVD is out for this year’s Doraemon movie, “The New Record of Nobita Spaceblazer” as it seems to be officially known and someone was kind enough to dump it onto the web. I’ve only watched half of the original 1981 movie because the VCD copy I have is missing the second disc so I won’t be able to make a comparison but, it seems they still have the new direction continues to be focused on character development and comedy.
The movie starts off fairly much the same way most Doraemon movies do. Nobita gets into trouble with Jaian again – This time because he couldn’t “reclaim” the pitch they usually play in from some middle school students. Along the way he dreams of a spaceship being caught in an energy storm while migrating to another planet.
Yes, I still like watching Doraemon. Laugh all you want =P
Almost forgot about this Nobita and the Legend of the Green Giant from 2008 but, better late than never. This is one of the better new Doraemon movies I’ve seen full of comedy and less repetitive talking animals material. I’m liking the modern animation style, artwork and the attention to the characters although I still miss the older movies where we would see plenty of Doraemon’s gadgets. Interesting to note that the little character Kibou also made an appearance during the 1992 movie, Nobita and The Kingdom of the Clouds.
The Doraemon movie remakes continue after this year’s “Green Giant” and they don’t seem to be doing it in any particular order… For 2009, a remake of the 1981 “The Records of Nobita, Space Blazer” is due which, is the movie that I only watched half of I think because the second VCD was missing from the copy we had. So, I won’t be able to compare the differences like I did with The Seven Mages or “Nobita’s Dinosaur” remakes.
I’m going to have another bunch of Doraemon DVDs to catch up on next time I’m in Hong Kong but by that time, I’m not sure if I’ll still be getting them…
This year’s annual Doraemon movie entitled “Nobita’s New Great Adventure into the Underworld” (AKA “The Seven Mages” or “Shin Makai Daibouken”), is another remake just like last year’s one. Premièred in cinemas back in March, this time it’s a remake of the 1984 movie which had a similar name.
Just like the first movie, the original was another one of the best Doraemon movies made IMO so I was very keen to see how this remake turned out. The Japanese DVD was just released earlier this month so I managed to find a copy of it to watch.
If there ever was a scary Doraemon movie, this was it… And I emphasise on the “was”. Read onto find out why the original was much better complete with big spoilers for both versions of the movie.
Nobita is having another one of those bad days. He’s kept after school for his recent bad test marks again and to make matters worst, he drags down Jaian’s baseball team during a match. Returning home, his mother scolds him for not cleaning his messy room. Nobita is fed up of having to go through all these things.
Crying, Nobita runs off to Doraemon for help but he’s pre-occupied watching the news on TV. Falling over Doraemon, he accidentally changes the channel to “Magical Girl Mami”.
Just found time to watch it tonight after getting it from the usual site where I get my Anime RAWs from.
This is a remake of the 1980 animation which was the very first Doraemon theatrical feature.
I don’t know how the original movie’s story starts off because my VHS video copy has a good chunk of the beginning cut off. Probably half an hour or so… However, reading the synopsis at the anniversary website they should be the same.
Read on ahead for a comparison if you don’t mind spoilers.
It starts off in a typical Doraemon fashion. As usual, Suneo is showing off as usual and this time it’s a dinosaur fossil of a Tyrannosaurus’ claw. Nobita once again gets ignored and doesn’t get to see it in detail like his other friends. Disappointed, he vows to find a fossil too.
