No More Heroes, Differences in Cut-Scenes

EU Boxart

Supposedly we will be getting the censored version of No More Heroes in a few weeks time over here but, I still haven’t really read any confirmation about February 29th (yay, leap year!). On the other hand, release dates have always been pay day Friday so it might just be true. As long as it doesn’t get delayed any further then, I don’t care.

Meanwhile, there are Europeans continuing to complain about how we’re not going to have any gore in our version. Someone has even compiled a set of videos, playing the Japanese and NA version side by side to show the differences during the cut scenes.

I watched through the clips since I don’t mind spoilers and I think for the majority of the scenes, they looked pretty bland without the blood. You just don’t have the feeling the onscreen characters are assassins and are holding deadly weapons. They feel more like toys.

For the action part of the game, I don’t mind having no gore since this title has a very comicy feeling to it and you’re fighting a bunch of cloned enemies most of the time anyway but, they probably should have left it in those boss finishing scenes for the extra dramatic touch. Then again, it would have looked inconsistent if there’s only blood during the cut scenes.

No More Heroes was Supposed to be an Xbox 360 Game

According to an interview from MCV, game designer Suda51 reveals that action game No More Heroes was originally planned for the Xbox 360.

Originally, I’d wanted to make this game for Xbox 360, actually. [Marvelous Interactive boss] Wada-san had information about the new Wii and how the new controller would work before it came out, so that’s why he thought I should produce the game on that format.

“At the time, I didn’t really understand why, but after seeing and understanding how it works, I think it was a good choice and the controller works really well with the game.”

Well, the game would definitely have looked much better that’s for sure with its powerful graphics chip set and HD support. On the content side of things I think it wouldn’t be much different considering even the Xbox 360 is only using dual layer 8GB DVDs which the Wii is also capable of using. In other words, the developers could have added more content than the 4GB game currently offers anyway. The AI might just fair a bit better with the Xbox 360’s faster processor but, that would have depended on the programmer really.

Control-wise, I think nothing could be more fun in an action game than getting to actually swing your arms to pull off that cool finishing move on the enemies or those painful wrestling moves.
