Students and Teachers Excluded from Free MS Office 2010 Upgrade | 学生と先生達が無料なオフィス2010アップグレードを得ない | 優惠購買Microsoft Office 2007不會得到免費Office 2010

Remember that little leak from an Microsoft blog about how people who buy Office 2007 can get a free upgrade to the 2010 version?

Well, it’s officially revealed now but unfortunately, teachers and students who purchase the software at a discount price over the next few months won’t be eligible. Shame.

Otherwise, if you’re paying the full price which can be range between an RRP of £110 – £600, you are eligible for a free download if you activate the software between now and 30th September.

According to PC Pro, a Microsoft blog had suggested that anyone who buys any version of Microsoft Office 2007 between March and September this year maybe eligible for a free upgrade to the latest version 2010.

I wonder if this applies to students who can buy (students in the US included) the Ultimate Edition for £40 instead of paying the RRP of £600?

Windows 7 Professional was also available for students at £30 instead of the RRP of £220 but the deal is now over unfortunately.

£30 Windows 7 Upgrade Offer for Students

Anyone who has access to an academic e-mail address and is currently running Windows XP or Vista, will have the opportunity to upgrade to the latest version of Windows, Windows 7 at a discount price of £30 starting from October 1st.

Beats wasting your time trying to find a working serial, patch or risk using maliciously modified software, right? Especially when you’ll be using it for the next 5 years at least.

Or if you’re on an IT related course, I suggest asking your lecturers or tutors if your university is a member of the MSDN Academic Alliance like mine is. You’ll have the opportunity to download legit copies of Microsoft software for free such as all version of Windows and developer suites like Visual Studio. Only Office isn’t available but you might want to take up the Ultimate Steal offer for that.

So why upgrade? It has all the good features of Windows Vista such as better video/photo thumbnail support, instant search, better start menu, a revamped taskbar, better resource monitoring and more. All taking up less resources than Vista.

Encarta Reference to Be Discontinued Due to Wikipedia

According to PC Pro, Microsoft will be discontinuing their Encarta Encyclopaedia reference software due to the huge popularity of Wikipedia.

Well, it was going to happen sooner or later. Who doesn’t use Wikipedia as their first point of reference these days? It’s quick, convenient and most important of all – Free! Even my lecturers use it now and then ^^;

Encarta discontinuing.
