Persona 4 Opening Movie and Yukiko Performance Time

The Persona 4 website has been updated with two videos again. This time it's a downloadable copy of the opening movie and a streaming clip of Yukiko performing on Mayonaka TV. There is also a banner you can use but, I don't really need that.

Here's a streaming version of the opening for your convenience.

Lyrics

Partly by ear and partly from the text in the video.

we are living our lives
abound with so much information

come on, let go of the remote;.
don’t you know you’re letting all the junk flood in?
I try to stop the flow double-clicking on the go,
but it’s no use; hey, I’m being consumed

loading, loading, loading
quickly reaching maximum capacity
warning, warning, warning
gonna shorten my identity

get up on your feet, tear down the walls
catch a glimpse of the hollow world
snooping around will get you nowhere
you’re trapped in your mind

we are trapped in a maze of relationships
that goes on with or without you
I swim in the sea of the unconscious
I search for your heart to see my true self

Yukiko The Actress

Yukiko is trying to entertain as a flirtatious girl who is out to find her prince charming on the show. She claims to be serious about it and the lucky person might be able to see parts of her that others wouldn't normally get to see...

So, it's time to charge forth into the castle!

Thoughts

Well, that must definitely be Shadow Yukiko on Mayonaka TV because she seems to be so much different from the other clips. She's more open and less refined... And I thought it was the idol girl who was showing her bosoms on TV like that. If there's going to be a P4 fanbook, I'm pretty sure they will include the word "bosom" in the glossary just like how Yukari's "shower scene" was listed in the P3 FES Fanbook.

Next up, the opening. I like the song and have ripped the short version for listening but, I think the animated cutscenes doesn't stand out quite as much as P3. The overall rendering and detail of the animation scenes looks better but now it also looks like your common Anime show whereas in P3, the line art really stood out.

P4's even got those cheezy evil laughs that you find mainly in Anime shows that have very thin plots. Well, with the exception of Death Note and Code Geass but those scenes showed how much the characters were changing.

I do like the use of those silhouettes though where the characters are splitting the screen into a yellow and darker coloured area. Very stylish.

I also miss the P3 artwork where they everything appears normal yet has a very abnormal touch to them... Take this image for example. The background should have a Persona but if you crop it out, the room appears pretty normal with the desk, chairs and characters there. However, their pale colours, heavy shadows and the way the image is distorted throws in that abnormal touch to the image.

I have yet to see something like this in P4 so far.

Disregarding the cutscenes however, I think it's safe to presume the gameplay will still be good though because it has a similar system as P3.

Why not take a break?

Watched the OP.
Not bad.
Theres still the stylish 2D flat style stuff but they added in full colored anime style screens too.
The song is ok.

I find that the P3 OP flows better with its song.
Maybe I need to watch the P4 OP again.

So with all the Shadow seems like one of the themes is a person's dark side.

The official site says Chie's moves are self-taught so she hasn't attended any Jeet Kune Do classes despite her Bruce Lee poses. Probably from all the martial art movies she watches.

And yes, Kanji's weapon might be chairs...

Almost forgot, just going to state the obvious...

According to the OP:
- Chie uses Jeet Kung Do (or various martial arts)
- Yousuke dual wields blades (kunai, in the OP)
- Kanji uses old fashioned brawling (or probably that sweet-looking steel chair in the Famitsu DVD trailer)
- Yukiko uses fans
- the female idol... dances? (like the Dancer class in FFX-2?)
- the young man uses guns (including that revolver in the OP)
- And Shujinkou probably uses two handed swords, just like in the DVD trailers. Or just like Minato from P3, he would be able to wield anything.

I still find Izanagi's design quite cool. One could think that he is wielding a katana in the OP, during the scene introducing the MC. Then again, you can probably call it a "long handled katana", judging from the size of the blade...

Lastly, the two people shown in the scene displaying just a sofa... would be good ol' Igor and his new assistant Margaret, am I right?

Thanks for the lyric, now I finally could singing it. The engrishness tempts me to transcript alternative version. 8D

That just confirms my theory of "being able to take on the Shadow versions of all party members".

And darn, I thought it was normal Yukiko who was showing off the fanservice! rotfl
Too bad then. :P

Joel,
I don't know. I think the animation looks better so I don't think it's A1 Pictures but, we'll just have to wait for the official credits.

Calvin,
I see a Meguro fan boy :P

Added the lyrics to the post now.

Dude, I totally agree with you. I thought the animation was fantastic for P3. P4 is still pretty good but not as good as P3's art. P4 is animated by the same people who's animating Trinity Soul right?

My, I think the opening is pretty good, I couldn't say which I like better, this one or persona 3, both are pretty artistic enough.

The music is the best part of the OP (despite being engrish), I'm really happy Meguro returns as the music director. I hope they will mention the OST release date soon!
